Bishop BoissonneauCardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, the Vatican’s Pro-Prefect of the Section for the First Evangelization and New Particular Churches of the Dicastery for Evangelization, has recently appointed Bishop John Boissonneau as Director (for English-speaking Canada) of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Canada.

The appointment period dates from June 29, 2024 through January 31, 2026. These duties are in addition to Bishop Boissonneau’s current ministry in the Archdiocese of Toronto.

Since 1922, the Pontifical Missions Societies through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith has supported the temporal needs of missions as well as created awareness of the work of the missions throughout the world. Some examples of projects include: building churches, pastoral centres, cathedrals damaged by tsunamis and earthquakes, religious houses of formation, homes for the clergy, formation programs for lay missionaries, radio and television production, audio-visual materials for remote mission areas as well as support of pastoral work in various rural dioceses.

We offer our prayers and best wishes for His Excellency as he takes on this important role.
